  2. General: The Tekran® Series 2600 Mercury Analyzer is available to all members of the Stanford community.  This is a user run instrument.  Before signing up, users must complete a training session on the instrument and be certified by a facility technician. Once certified, users planning to run samples must sign up on the HgA Scheduler.  Users should also refer to the Tekran® Series 2600 Mercury Analyzer Basic Startup Procedure for assistance and involve Adam when questions arise. Safety glasses and Nitrile Gloves are mandatory while operating this instrument.

  3. Operation:  The Hg analyzer is available for use by certified users Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 8am to 5pm.

  4. Cost:  The Hg analyzer costs $20 per hour.  Instrument setup, sample analysis and data finalization will all be billed at this rate.  Users must have a valid Stanford PTA to sign up for this instrument.

  5. Samples: All samples for analysis must be in aqueous form.  Unknown samples must be free of solid particulates.  Water samples should be filtered with a 0.45mm or smaller membrane filters and preserved with minimum 0.5% Bromine Monochloride.  Filtered samples need to be stored into GLASS vials with Teflon lined lids (I-Chem brand) and placed in the sample rack.  Solids in the samples can cause inaccurate readings and clog the sample probe, resulting in expensive repairs, replacements, and down time on Hg analyzer, which we would like to avoid. If you will be doing routine analysis and/or would like to prepare the samples in your lab, you can purchase the sample vials through Fisher Scientific.

  6. Standard Solutions: The EM1 provides 1 ppb standard stock solution of Hg.  Users are expected to make the appropriate high standard for their method from these stocks.  Prepare your standard carefully because it will affect the accuracy of your results.

  7. Detection Limits:

  • Hg - 0.1 ng/L to 250 ng/L

If you have any questions making your standard solution, please email Adam Jew or call 723-7513.

Data: After analysis is complete, please export your data via memory stick.  All data collected on the Hg analyzer will be saved for at least 30 days. Files older than 30 days may be deleted to make space on the hard drive if needed.
